Main Objectives Of This Year

1.          To cultivate positive values into the English curriculum.

2.          To cultivate pupils responsibility and ownership towards learning, nurture pupils to become self-regulated learners.

3.          To enhance teachers’ professional development via professional development workshops and sharing sessions.

4.          To help pupils enhance the speaking skills and cultivate good reading habit.

Related Strategies

1. To cultivate positive values into the English curriculum.

1.1. Conduct a Writing Competition on thankfulness during Easter Holiday.

1.2. ‘Love Radio’ will be conducted at lunch time. Teachers have to choose one/some pupil(s) from each class to conduct the Love Radio Show. Pupils express on topics like self-discipline, perseverance and thankfulness.

1.3.  An ‘Interactive Activity board’ on positive values will be introduced every two months to promote positive attitudes.

 

2. To cultivate pupils responsibility and ownership towards learning, nurture pupils to become self-regulated learners.

2.1. Lesson Plan (including preparatory resources, extended learning homework) will be discussed and designed three times each year during the co-planning meetings to enhance pupils’ self-regulated skills and foster quality teaching and learning.

2.2.  Pupils should make use of the Self-learning notebook (e.g. vocabulary building and notes jotting) for their self-learning.

2.3.  Under teachers’ guidance, pupils in KS2 devise a project timetable which helps develop a clear sense of direction in the project, and to support them in allocating time and duties and monitoring the progress at different time intervals.

2.4.  Pupils have to fill in the self-evaluation checklist of each unit at the Task-based Learning Booklet.     

2.5.  Pupils’ preparatory work or self-learn information and materials should be posted in the classroom or shared during the lessons frequently to encourage pupils self-learn and to enhance the learning atmosphere.

3. To enhance teachers’ professional development via professional development workshops and sharing sessions.

 

3.1.  Professional development workshops will be conducted to English teachers (e.g.  professional workshops will be conducted by the NET, the ELTA or AT to enhance teachers’ subject knowledge.)

3.2.  Establish an inviting culture for teachers to share good teaching practices and teaching and learning resources in co-planning meetings and panel meetings.

3.3.  Self-learn and e-learning elements should be included in the lesson observation. Good practices should be shared during the co-planning meetings.

4. To help pupils enhance their speaking skills and cultivate good reading habit.

4.1.  An ELTA is recruited to teach reading and speaking in P.3 to 6.

4.2.  An English Speaking Corner will be set up during recess in the English room. Students are encouraged to use English to communicate with the NET and the ELTA.

4.3.  One-minute Talk will be conducted during English lessons. Pupils will do the show and tell on a selected topic to build up their confidence in speaking.

4.4.  Implement Cross-curricular activities (e.g. drama, folk songs) with Music Subject to widen pupils’ exposure to English.

4.5.  ‘Bookworm’ Reading Club will be carried out in KS1 and KS2. There will be 30 English books in each class. Pupils can take turns to borrow the books.
